Alain Bernard of France collected gold at the Men's 100m Freestyle at the National Aquatics Center, Thursday, August 14, 2008, with a time of 47:21, beating world record holder Eamon Sullivan of Australia, who came in second with a time of 47:32.

Eamon Sullivan and Bernard were equally leading till the 50 meter mark, after which Bernard sped up and finished first.

Jason Lezak of the United States and Cesar Cielo Filho of Brazil shared the bronze, clocking the same time of 47:67.
