Bresta was born in 1958 in Munich and then taken to St. Petersburg's zoo. She arrived at the Kiev zoo in 1960 and has spent most of her life there as part of a program to care for endangered animals.
The hippo has been pleasing the crowds who have visited the zoo over the years. To celebrate this special day, the Ukrainian general public have been giving her carrots, apples, bananas, oranges and pears, which Bresta is fond of.
