The news broke (on Twitter) and I immediately begged for it not to be true, Ron Isley was tweeting that Teena Marie had passed away.  Twitter delved into a series of hysteria, disbelief, suspicion and then finally after the debates and cuss outs subsided we realized that we had indeed lost our Ivory Queen of Soul Ms. Mary Christine Brockert at the tender age of 54 to a Grand mal seizure.

Lady T as she was affectionately known crossed racial boundaries to transcend to a level of reverence in which her soulful, pitch perfect voice spoke volumes about the content of her character.  My heart was heavy especially because I always admired and loved Teena Marie for being a true soul sister and a trailblazer for artists who were not afraid to share their passions when others were sometimes afraid.  Her music will forever live on with classics like Fire and Desire, Square Biz, Lover Girl, Portuguese Love, Ooo La La La.

Rest In Peace Lady T, now you can make sweet music in heaven with Brother Rick!
